Ca. AD 1700 - 1800. A hardstone cameo carved with a left-facing bust of an empress as Ceres, with a diadem above the brow, a veil drawn over the hair, and a sheaf of wheat rising above the crown. It is set within a plain gold mount, with suspension loops at the top and bottom and a pin fitting at the reverse. Size: 65mm x 50mm; Weight: 28.7g Provenance: Central London private collection of Ancient Art and jewellery; acquired from an East Coast, US estate collection formed before 1979.
