Ca. AD 1500 - 1600. A circular silver-gilt hat appliqu? with concentric bands of geometric ornament. The centre is set with six semicircular silver plaques inlaid with black niello, arranged around a hexagonal motif with a smaller niello-inlaid hexagon within. The reverse is decorated with a six-petalled rosette around a central roundel, with two attachment loops at opposing ends. Size: 69mm x 69mm; Weight: 40.5g Provenance: Property of a London Ancient art collector, formerly in a London private collection, formerly acquired on the UK art market since the 1970s.
