Ca. AD 100 - 200. A basalt altar of tapering trapezoidal form, with a projecting moulded cornice. Each face is carved in relief with a bust: Apollo Helios with a nimbus and radiate crown;a female head that reminds one of Aphrodite; a diademed bearded male head with short wavy hair, probably Zeus Helios; and Tyche with a turreted crown. Size: 410mm x 330mm; Weight: 73.4kg Provenance: Property of a central London gallery, acquired on the UK art market; formerly with an Italian Noble family since the 1980s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
