拍品描述

With a central coat of arms and crest. The seal was likely to have belonged to Sir John Rea of Richmond, Surrey (1600-1670) a scrivener of Fleet Street and alderman of London. He was educated at the Merchant Taylors' School, Knighted in Whitehall in 1663. The helmet on the seal matrix is of a gentlemen rather than a knight so the seal is likely to pre-date the knighthood. The arms are listed in Le Neve's Pedigrees of the Knights, edited by G.W.Marshall LL.D, London 1873 pages 168-169 My thanks to Angela Howard of Heirloom & Howard for assistance in identifying the coat-of arms Height 2.5cm Weight 9 grams Provenance: Acquired Chester, 6th November 1948 TO BE SOLD WITHOUT RESERVE
