ROMAN BRONZE FERTILITY PENDANT IN THE FORM OF AN ITHYPHALLIC GROTESQUE

Ca. AD 100 - 300. A bronze pendant in the form of an ithyphallic grotesque, cast as a short-limbed male figure shown frontally with the arms extended to either side, the oval head modelled with large eyes, a prominent nose and a striated beard. An oversized erect phallus projects below the incised torso. An integral suspension loop rises from the top of the head; the reverse is hollow. For similar see: The Michael C.
