Ca. AD 600 - 800. A gold-framed teardrop-shaped lapis lazuli pendant with a beaded outer edge and an integral suspension loop at the apex. The obverse is carved with Christ seated on the Virgin?s lap, both shown in left profile with dotted haloes, Christ raising one hand in blessing towards St John the Baptist kneeling before them with hands raised in prayer. A crescent and a dotted star fill the upper field. The reverse shows a Chi-Rho within a beaded border, with a dotted star below. Size: 30mm x 16mm; Weight: 4.4g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with J. Danier collection, France 1980s.
