Ca. 1100. A silver-gilt rectangular pendant with an arched top and a raised border. The obverse shows Saint Demetrius holding a spear and shield, with a nimbus and Greek inscription within the field. The reverse shows Saint Theodore also with spear and shield, and a Greek inscription; with a suspension loop at the apex. For similar see: H. C. Evans, W. D. Size: 28mm x 19mm; Weight: 7g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
