Ca. AD 100 - 400. A pedestal cup formed with a double wall. The body rises from a concave foot on a short stem and flares to a broad, everted rim. The outer wall is gilt and chased with scrolling vine tendrils, leaves and pendant grape clusters, continuing around the bowl. A narrow band of stylised foliage runs around the edge of the foot. The interior base is marked with concentric incised circles and a punched inscription. Size: 135mm x 110mm; Weight: 285g Provenance: Private UK collection, Ex French collection, Previously in a private collection, Austria, before 1990. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
