RARE AKKADIAN / SUMERIAN BRONZE HELMET WITH CHEEKPIECES

Ca. 2500 - 2100 BC. A bronze helmet, hammered from a single sheet, with a shallow, rounded skull and integral cheekpieces descending from the rim. The edge is pierced with a continuous row of attachment holes for securing a lining. For iconographic parallel see: The British Museum, Museum number 121201. Size: 240mm x 200mm; Weight: 250g Provenance: Private UK collection; From an old British collection D.B. formed in the 1980s.
