A gold ring with a plain convex hoop and a raised bezel cell with a beaded rim, set with a carnelian intaglio engraved with Sol Invictus standing in profile with one leg advanced, the head turned back, one arm extended and the other bent, wearing a radiate crown. Size: D:18.14mm / US: 8 / UK: P 1/2; Weight: 3.5g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
