Ca. AD 50 - 200. A red glass intaglio engraved with Mars standing on a groundline, slightly turned, wearing a crested helmet, holding a spear in the left hand and resting the right hand on a shield. Mounted in a possibly later silver ring with a broad hoop and an oval bezel with a sunk setting. Size: D:17.12mm / US: 6 3/4 / UK: N; Weight: 8.8g Provenance: Private central London collection; previously acquired on the UK art market before 2000.
