Ca. AD 1 - 300. A matched pair of gold earrings, each formed as a circular hoop with a twisted wire running along the outer edge. The front of each hoop is set with a shield-shaped boss with a central knob and a twisted border. From the lower arc hangs a short vertical drop composed of fine granules. Size: 39-39mm x 18-19mm; Weight: 4.7g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
