Ca. AD 1 - 300. A matched pair of gold earrings, each with a tapering circular hoop, the front fitted with a shield-shaped boss centred by a knop and framed by a beaded border. From the lower arc hangs a short drop composed of fine granules. For similar see: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Object Number: 74.51.3719, 74.51.4012. Size: 31-32mm x 13-14mm; Weight: 4.6g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
