APULIAN RED-FIGURE BAIL AMPHORA WITH OFFERING SCENE

Ca. 330 - 310 BC. A bail amphora with a broad, overhanging disc mouth beneath an arched bail handle, set with a central perforated lug, a tall cylindrical neck, and an ovoid body tapering to a splayed foot. The neck is decorated with vertical bands above a band of running waves at the shoulder. Side A with a standing woman wearing a peplos girdled at the waist, her hair bound up, holding a box towards a low altar, the field with a suspended fillet, a tablet, and scattered rosettes. Side B with a woman seated on a pile of rocks and holding a leafy branch, the field framed by scrolling tendrils and floral sprays. For similar see: Mus?e Saint-Raymond, Inv. 26411.
