Bamboo Carvings from the Wumingtang Collection signed Zhu Tang, with an accompanying poem dated to the dinghai year Height 13.4 cm, 5¼ in. Yang Xie (1781-1859), known by the moniker Zhutang among others, was a native Wujiang in Jiangsu province and a noted scholar and epigrapher. Moving to Suzhou in his middle age, Yang focused his attention on selling art and was particularly beloved for his calligraphy, stele inscriptions and carving of bamboo fan ribs.
