拍品描述
Bamboo Carvings from the Wumingtang Collection Height 13.4 cm, 5¼ in. The design of this finely carved brushpot is inspired by the third of eight famous Southern Song dynasty paintings by Liang Kai (ca. 1140-1210) entitled The Eight Eminent Monks (Ba gaoseng tu juan), preserved in the Shanghai Museum, Shanghai. This figure, identified as the Chan Master Niaoke Daolin, sits a nest of his own creation in an act of radical non-action. Speaking with the statesman Bai Juyi, he meditates that while his situation was precarious, 'The provincial governor is in far more danger.'
