A rare carved archaistic qingbai tripod censer, Southern Song dynasty

Height 16 cm, 6¼ in. Compare a closely related censer of slightly less bulbous form bearing a more crude rendition of the present design, uncovered from the Hutian kilns of Jingdezhen, illustrated alongside other related sherds from tripod censers in Jingdezhen Hutian yao zhi / Hutian Kiln Site in Jingdezhen, vol. II, Beijing, 2007, col.pl. 104, and zoomorphic legs, col.pl. 108. Also compare a related censer from the collection of Peter Scheinman (1932-2017), sold at Christie's New York, 14th and 15th September 2017, lot 1137; another of squatter form with no handles and only one decorative register sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30th May 2018, lot 2983; and another of bowl-shape form with related zoomorphic legs and square handles, illustrated in Zhao Ziqiang, ed., Chai Kiln & Hutian Kiln, Guangzhou, 2003, p. 74.
