拍品描述

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca-Etzatlan, Ca. 3rd century BC - 3rd century AD. >A powerful terracotta female figure from the Ameca-Etzatlan tradition of Jalisco, presented in a kneeling posture with her hands pressed firmly against her abdomen. Bare-chested and semi-nude, she wears a skirt that clings to her seated legs, while her breasts are prominently modelled and her chest retains faint traces of black pigment that once represented tattoo-like body decoration. Her expressive face is rendered with wide almond-shaped eyes and a stern mouth, framed by circular earspools and crowned with a headdress over neatly incised hair. The figure's strong posture, along with her carefully adorned appearance, suggests she may have been associated with fertility or ancestral veneration. Figures of this type were often interred in shaft tombs, serving as guardians or representations of lineage, their striking forms offering a direct, human connection to West Mexican ritual traditions. > >Size: 310mm x 235mm; Weight: 2.23kg >Provenance: Private UK Collection; ex Collection of Y. Kayvan, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from a Los Angeles, California, USA gallery acquisition dates range from the late 1990s to 2005. > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
