LAMBAYEQUE STYLE STIRRUP VESSEL DEPICTING A FEMALE HEALER WITH CACTUS

Peru, Ca. AD 900 - 1430. A salmon-coloured pottery vessel modelled in the form of a seated female figure with a stirrup spout rising from the back. The woman is shown with hunched shoulders and enveloped in a long, draped cloak that defines the outer contour of the vessel. Her head is tilted slightly upwards, with bulging eyes, a furrowed brow, and a deeply recessed, open mouth revealing a full row of uneven teeth. A layered necklace encircles the neck, the right arm is raised, and the left hand supports a small, rounded hallucinogenic cactus. For similar see: The Fowler Museum at UCLA, Object ID: X88.823.
