Pre-Columbian, Maya, Late Classic period, Ca. 7th - 9th century AD. >A polychrome cylinder vessel animated by a narrative central register of three standing figures, likely elite individuals or lords, presented within a carefully structured painted programme. Hand-built and wheel-less, the vessel rises in a straight-sided cylindrical form with a subtly rounded rim, the interior coated in a warm slip that shows the soft abrasion and mineral traces of age and use. The central band features three human figures rendered in red and dark brown against a lighter ground, each shown in profile with bent limbs and expressive gestures. Their postures and proportions suggest courtly or ritual roles, perhaps participants in a formal scene of audience, performance, or ceremonial exchange.
