Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ca. 3rd century BC - 3rd century AD. >A powerfully modelled ceramic figure depicting a seated semi-nude female, her body folded inward with legs bent beneath her and both arms raised, elbows flared, hands placed behind the head in a posture that is at once intimate and declarative. The bare torso emphasises full breasts and a softly rounded abdomen, while a simple skirt encircles the lower body, grounding the figure in the visual language of fertility and embodied presence characteristic of Jalisco shaft tomb sculpture. Her face is rendered with a long, prominent nose, almond-shaped eyes, and a restrained, solemn expression, conveying ritual stillness rather than individualized portraiture. The surface displays rich red and buff slips with areas of burnishing and mineral accretion, bearing the quiet abrasions of centuries underground.
