EGYPTIAN SANDSTONE RELIEF DEPICTING AMON

Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A stunning sandstone panel with two main figures. The first is a woman, possibly a goddess consort like Mut or Amenet, or a clerical figure known as the Divine Adoratrice. She has her partial right arm extended and is dressed in a sheath gown, adorned with a large wesekh pectoral collar around her neck. Her headdress resembles a vulture, with its wings draped behind her ears, lappets down to her breasts, and a pair of ostrich feather plumes partially visible on top. This suggests her role as a Divine Adoratrice of Amun, and she is holding an ankh (the cross symbol). The second figure is a man seated on a large chair upon a stage. He wears a short skirt, and his bald head is crowned with feathers. Size: 320mm x 180mm; Weight: 3.7kg. Provenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the US art market; Ex.
