Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ca. 3rd century BC - 3rd century AD. >A compelling ceramic dog effigy modelled in a grounded four-legged stance, distinguished by a prominently raised spine that runs the length of the arched back, lending the figure a powerful sense of structure and tension. The head is animated by an open mouth with a clearly protruding tongue, an expressive detail that introduces vitality and character, suggesting panting, vocalization, or alert engagement with its surroundings. Short, thick limbs support the rounded, barrel-like body, while almond-shaped eyes and simplified ears maintain the characteristic hieratic style of Jalisco ceramics.
