Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Ca. 2nd century BC - 3rd century AD. >A robust Colima pottery drum animated by four relief-modelled serpents that coil rhythmically around the exterior, transforming a utilitarian vessel into a sculptural meditation on movement, power, and regeneration. The jar is thick-walled and cylindrical in form, with a slightly rounded base and a wide, open mouth that emphasises its volumetric presence. Each serpent is rendered in low relief, its body looping in a sinuous arc across the surface. The heads are subtly indicated, while punctate impressions along the bodies may suggest scales, markings, or symbolic emphasis rather than literal anatomy.
