拍品描述

Ca. first half of the 20th century AD. >A coiled basket of shallow rounded form, finely woven with light natural fibres and decorated with geometric polychrome motifs in dark brown and reddish tones. The design is arranged in repeating triangular and stepped patterns around the body. Baskets of this type are characteristic of the Paiute people of the Mono Lake region, renowned for their highly skilled basketry traditions within the Great Basin cultural area. Such vessels were used for domestic purposes including storage and serving, while their intricate geometric decoration also reflects the aesthetic refinement and cultural symbolism embedded in Paiute weaving practices. > >Size: 495mm x 170mm; Weight: 490g >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Bonhams, 4 Jun 2012, 20296, Lot1105. > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
