拍品描述

Ca. 20th century AD. >A group of two Navajo chief?s blankets, woven in wool and decorated with horizontal banded designs. The first example features alternating broad brown and cream stripes with deep blue bands, creating a bold and balanced composition characteristic of classic Navajo weaving traditions. The second blanket displays a more subdued palette, composed of soft brown and grey horizontal bands arranged across a warm ground. Both textiles demonstrate the tight weaving and linear patterning associated with Navajo loom techniques, where designs are built through the careful arrangement of coloured wool threads. The rhythmic horizontal striping emphasises the rectangular format of the blankets while highlighting the skill of the weaver.Chief?s blankets were historically prestigious garments among the Navajo (Din?) and were widely valued throughout the American Southwest. Worn as cloaks and traded extensively, they became some of the most recognised and influential textiles produced in Native North America. > >Size: 1680-1805mm x 1220-1260mm; Weight: 3.1kg >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Bonhams, 5 De. 2011, lot 4358; ex Private Texas collection; ex-Robert Parsons, Taos, NM; authenticated by Dr. Joe Ben Wheat. > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
