Ca. 12th-19th century AD. A group of three bronze figures of Krishna as the Butter Thief, each depicted in a characteristic crawling pose with one hand raised, holding a ball of butter. The figures capture the youthful charm and divine playfulness of Krishna, a central theme in Hindu devotional art.Krishna?s butter-thieving episodes are among the most beloved tales from his childhood. As a mischievous young boy in the village of Gokul, Krishna was notorious for stealing freshly churned butter from the homes of the cowherd women.
