INDIAN BRONZE HANUMAN

Ca. 17th-18th century AD. A cast bronze figure of Hanuman, the devoted monkey-god and loyal servant of Rama, shown in a dynamic kneeling pose on a rectangular base. He holds the gada (mace) in his right hand and the mountain bearing the life-restoring herb in his left, recalling the famous Ramayana episode. Hanuman wears a short dhoti with incised decoration and a beaded necklace, his expressive face crowned with a headdress. Size: 175mm x 130mm; Weight: 1.42kg Provenance: Private UK Collection.
