Middle Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, Ca. 2055 - 1550 BC. A steatite scarab with incised wing cases, carved on the flat underside with a three-stem papyrus plant rising from a basket. Mounted in a possibly later gold swivel ring with a rounded hoop, the scarab rotates within an oval frame between ball terminals. Size: D:17.53mm / US: 7 1/4 / UK: O; Weight: 5.4g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of an early 2000s UK ancient art collection; formerly in the collection of G.M., prior to 1996.
