EGYPTIAN AMETHYST SCARAB

New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. An amethyst scarab with lengthwise perforation. The domed back with a broad prothorax and the wing cases divided by three longitudinal grooves, the small head flanked by hatched triangular panels. The flat underside is cut with an oval border enclosing a central fish with a cross-hatched body, between two crocodiles. Size: 30mm x 21mm; Weight: 12.3g Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with G. Metz, Sweden 1980s-1990s.
