After Marcel Debut (1865-1933), circa 1900 Finely cast as a scantily clad classical male youth in dynamic contrapposto, the figure modeled striding forward with one knee raised upon a naturalistic base, his right arm extended aloft holding a horn, set on an integral base with rocky ground signed Marcel Debut. Height 34 inches (86.5 cm), width 21 inches (53.4 cm). Footnote: Marcel Debut was a French sculptor associated with the late Academic and early Art Nouveau milieu. A pupil of Alexandre Falguière, Debut exhibited at the Paris Salon and specialized in classically inspired figures rendered with naturalistic vitality. His works often reinterpret antique prototypes through a late 19th-century lens, combining academic modeling with a more animated, expressive pose as seen in the present figure.
