Stamped MARCHAND JME, circa 1745 With serpentine Breche d’Alep marble top, polychrome lacquered and gilt-heightened with exotic birds, flowering branches, and stylized rockwork reserved within an irregular cartouche against a black ground, the angles and shaped legs and apron applied with scroling foliate gilt-bronze mounts. . Height 36 inches (91 cm), width 29 inches (74 cm), depth 21 1/4 inches (54 cm). Nicolas-Jean Marchand, reçu maître in 1738 Provenance: Jacques Perrin, Paris, May 7, 1998 Footnote: Nicolas-Jean Marchand (circa 1697-1757), was born into a family of bronze casters and it has been suggested that - in contradiction of guild regulations - Marchand oversaw the finishing of the superb foliate and rocaille mounts of his oeuvre.
