Possibly by Jean-Baptiste Sené, circa 1780 Each with foliate-carved and beaded arched padded back, arms and bow-fronted seat, on turned tapering fluted legs carved with paterae and terminating in toupie feet; upholstered in a floral fuchsia jacquard fabric with scroll and braid gimp. Height 39 inches (99 cm), width 25 1/2 inches (65 cm), depth 21 1/2 inches (55 cm), seat height 17 inches (43 cm). Jean-Baptiste Sené, recu maître in 1769. Provenance: Christie's London, December 14, 2005, lot 128, (the sofa not included). Footnote: This suite is apparently en suite to a grey-painted fauteuil stamped by Jean-Baptiste Sené, sold at Christie’s Monaco, 12 December 1999, lot 870. The upholstery of this set prevents a comprehensive examination of the rails; the possibility of a stamp cannot therefore be totally disregarded. Jean-Baptiste Sené (1728–1803) dominated the production of menuiserie in Paris during the last years of the ancien régime. His principal clients were the King and the Queen and from 1785–1791, he provided seat-furniture, beds, consoles, folding stools, footstools, screens etc. for Saint-Cloud, Sèvres, Versailles and the Tuileries. Sené is known to have sub-contracted the carving of much of his Royal commissions to his favorite sculptors, Pierre Laurent, Nicolas Vallois and Alexandre Régnier, and the gilding to Louis Chatard, who seems to have enjoyed a virtual monopoly on pieces destined for the Royal family. A fauteuil à la Reine of closely related design is illustrated in the portrait of the Marquise d’Ossun attributed to Drouais (1727–1775). Appointed as Louis XVI’s Ambassador to both the King of Naples and Carlos III in Madrid, this portrait was painted shortly after 1762, giving a surprisingly early stylistic dating to this model. 品相： No condition report?
