German, 1897-1983 Bazillen (Bacteria), 1918 Signed and dated Michel 18 (lc) Collage and watercolor on paper laid on board 29 1/2 x 24 3/4 inches (74.9 x 62.9cm) Provenance: Sale, Karl & Faber Auction, Munich, Dec. 5, 2000, lot 565 Sale, Hauswedell & Nolte, Hamburg, Moderne Kunst Auktion 366, Jun. 15, 2002, lot 1491 Acquired from the above sale by the current owner Exhibited: Sprengel Museum, Hanover, Robert Michel, 1988-89, cat. no. 15 (Frame: 32 1/4 x 27 1/2 inches) 品相： Overall in fair condition. The sheet is toned and was likely laid on board after the middle of 20th century. The sheet has several previous tears most notable along the left edge, which appears to have existed prior to the work being laid on board. These tears are all glued and stable. There's areas of discoloration consistent with the age of the sheet. Some areas of paper loss along the extreme edges. The paper border around the work has spotting throughout. This paper border appears to have been added at a later date.
