Circa 1930s to 1940s, in the style of Psychological Realism/Catastrophe Art. Charcoal or graphite portrait drawing depicting the profile of a man, rendered with expressive shading and careful modeling of facial features. Signed “Georg Leopold” at the lower right of the reverse side. According to family history provided by the consignor, the drawing was brought from Germany by relatives fleeing the Nazi regime. Family tradition holds that the drawing was created by a well-known artist and brought to the United States by the consignor’s great-aunt (born 1899) when she was forced to leave Germany for her safety. The drawing was later framed in Florida in 1984 by the consignor’s great-aunt, the original owner. No written documentation accompanies the piece. Overall very good vintage condition, paper shows age toning with visible fold lines. Professionally framed and matted under clear glazing in a decorative gilt frame with small paint loss at the lower left corner of the frame , ready to hang.
