拍品描述
Ca. 19th century AD. >A pair of canoe models carved from wood and constructed with miniature elements reflecting traditional Pacific watercraft. The larger model features a broad hull with a triangular textile sail mounted on a central mast and secured with fibre rigging. Carved deck structures and a projecting stern element suggest the architectural arrangement of a sailing vessel.Accompanying the larger model is a smaller canoe with outrigger supports, its narrow hull fitted with stabilising arms connected to a secondary float. Both models demonstrate simplified representations of the structural components characteristic of traditional island canoes. > >Size: 380-595mm x 45-420mm; Weight: 1.23kg >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Loed van Bussel, Amsterdam. > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
