A gold necklace formed as a chain of double circular links with a hook-and-loop clasp, suspending an oval pendant in a collet with a twisted edge, set with a cameo carved with the head of Alexander the Great in the guise of Herakles, shown in left profile wearing the Nemean lion skin. For similar see: MET Museum Object Number: 10.130.1400; British Museum number 1934,1115.11 Size: 200mm x 19mm; Weight: 13g Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
