HUGE CELTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD RIBBED TORC WITH FLATTENED TERMINALS

Ca. 600 - 300 BC. A penannular torc with a copper core clad in very thick gold sheet, the circular-section hoop decorated with fine transverse ribbing. The opposing terminals broaden to flattened rectangular plates, each with a beaded border and ornamented with a band of geometric panels. Size: 305mm x 245mm; Weight: 475g Provenance: Private London collection; formerly SOLMO Moussaieff collection 1990s.
