South Asia or the Middle East, likely produced for a ceremonial or decorative purpose in the 19th century, a framed elaborate embroidery on silk, worked in polychrome silk threads and metallic couched threads, depicting a central basket overflowing with stylized blossoms, framed within an oval border and surrounded by further floral embroidery. The outer border is richly embellished with repeating rosettes, each inset with polished semi-precious cabochon stones, enhancing the jewel-like effect. The overall composition is heightened with gilt thread highlights, creating a shimmering effect against the dark velvet ground. Presented in a later giltwood frame under glass, a striking collector’s piece, and suited for display as a decorative accent in an elegant interior. Ready to hang. In very good condition.
