拍品描述
Ca. 20th century AD. >A group of five Mangbetu negbe, formed from bark and plant fibres and decorated with bold geometric patterns in contrasting dark and natural tones. The pieces vary in form, including rounded and slightly elongated examples, each displaying carefully composed linear, concentric, and radial motifs that emphasise the contours of the surfaces. The decoration is achieved through incised, dyed, or naturally contrasted fibres, producing striking designs including checkerboard bands, radiating lines, and circular arrangements. Among the Mangbetu, negbe were worn as elements of women?s back aprons, attached to fibre garments and serving both decorative and social functions. > >Size: 190-240mm x 260-330mm; Weight: 600g >Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Congo Gallery Brussels 07 April 2010. > >
