Ca. 20th century AD. >A small group comprising a kapala bead and a carved African wooden mask head mounted for display.The kapala bead, carved from bone, takes the form of a stylised skull, with deeply drilled eye sockets and incised teeth. Such beads are associated with Tibetan Buddhist ritual objects and ornaments, where skull imagery symbolises impermanence and the transcendence of the material world.The wooden head represents a fragment of a West or Central African mask, characterised by a rounded cranium, stylised facial features, and a pronounced coiffure element rising from the forehead.
