A rare Chinese red ground 'Alliance at Jiantu' embroidered hanging panel Qing dynasty, 19th century Embroidered in satin stitch and couched with gold metal wrapped threads on red felt ground depicting a scene of the envoys of various countries of Spring and Autumn period meeting at Jiantu, approx. 525 x 53cm excluding tassels. 清十九世紀 紅地「踐土之盟」刺繡掛屏 Note: The Jiantu Alliance was a meeting of feudal lords held during the Spring and Autumn period of ancient China at Jiantu (a Zheng territory, located southwest of present day Yuanyang County in Henan Province). It took place in the winter of 632 BCE and was led by Duke Wen of Jin, who invited various states to participate. The participating states included Qi, Chen, Lu, Song, Cai, Zheng, Wei, and Ju. King Xiang of Zhou also attended the meeting. 踐土之盟是中國古代春秋時期諸侯在踐土舉行的一次會盟。踐土為鄭國之地，位於今河南省原陽縣西南。此盟會發生於公元前632年冬，由晉文公主持，並邀請諸國參與。參與諸侯國包括齊、陳、魯、宋、蔡、鄭、衛、莒等。周襄王亦親臨會盟。
