A Chinese famille verte on biscuit 'Li Bai' water pot and water dropper Qing dynasty, Kangxi period Modelled as Li Bai resting beside a large jar, 19cm wide. 清康熙 素燒五彩詩仙式水盂及水滴 cf. A similar Kangxi period water pot, in the same pose but painted in a different pattern, is in the collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, C.1050-1917. Li Bai (701-762) was a Tang dynasty poet, acclaimed both during his life and to the present day as a supremely skilled poet. His poems were models for celebrating the pleasures of friendship, the depth of nature, solitude, and, of course, the joys of drinking wine. Along with his friend Du Fu (712-770), he was at the forefront at what is now regarded as the ‘Golden Age of Chinese Poetry’.
