A Chinese white and black jade boulder carving Qing dynasty, 18th century, with apocryphal inscription Finely carved with a scholar in solitary retreat in a mountainous pine grove, the stone of a pale celadon hue with cloudy-white and extensive black inclusions, the peak of the mountain later inscribed with a Qianlong poem, 9.5cm high x 14cm long. The inscription reads: 盤陀松下坐聽濤，箕踞科頭逸興豪。 攜得焦桐何必鼓，高山流水自成操。 Seated beneath gnarled pines upon rugged stones, I listen to the roaring waves; Leaning back, bare-headed, my spirit wanders in carefree ease. Though I carry a fine jiaotong zither, there is no need to play, for mountains high and flowing waters already compose their own melody. 清十八世紀 墨白玉雕山子
