拍品描述
Oil painting on canvas Alfred de Dreux is one of the first Romantic painters of the eighteenth century. Born into a family of artists, his father was an architect who won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1815, prompting the entire family to move to Rome, where they could admire the ancient ruins. He met Théodore Géricault, one of his first teachers, and exhibited numerous times at the French National Salon in Paris. His work is characterized by noble portraits and equestrian portraits, including that of the Duke of Orleans, son of Louis-Philippe of France. Signed lower right, signature faded and barely legible.
