Republic or earlier. Meticulously modeled with its legs tucked beneath a rounded, robust body. The animal is covered in a lustrous, thick celadon glaze. Its serene, upward-looking expression is detailed with hand-painted iron-red or reddish-brown accents on the eyes, muzzle, and cloven hooves. Likely serving as a scholar’s object such as a paperweight. In very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and kiln imperfections, slight roughness along ear rims.
