The ovoid body and domed cover moulded to form a 'basket weave' effect, each component set with a pair of lug handles, decorated in a cream-coloured glaze, the base unglazed Size:(13cm high) Qty: (2) Provenance:Geoffrey Middle collection 來源： 傑佛瑞 · 米德爾先生珍藏 Notes: A very similar jar is in the collection of the V&A Museum, London, acc. no. 129&A-1935. In an article published in 'Oriental Art' in March 2015, Roberto Gardellin discusses this group of basket-shaped wares in 'Reed Basket Ceramic Wares in Northern China between 9th and 13th century', dating this group to the period between Five dynasties and Jin. He also illustrates a similar jar without cover excavated in Yangzhou as fig.19. A brown-glazed jar and cover of comparable form and design from the Carl Kempe collection was sold at Sothebys, 5th November 2008, lot 490, and then later-offered at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 29th November 2018, lot 629.
