The elliptical body set with a pair of slender wing-shaped handles, the interior painted red, the exterior and handle with abstract motifs painted in red against a black ground Size:(14.6cm long) Qty: (1) Provenance:Geoffrey Middle collection 來源： 傑佛瑞 · 米德爾先生珍藏 Notes: Elliptical-form ear cups were produced from the Warring States period (475-221 B.C.E) until the 5th century, and are generally found in three forms: cups with either rectangular ears, round ears, or those with a stem foot. The present lot is a typical example of a Warring States-era piece, as noted in '2000 Years of Chinese Lacquer', Hong Kong, 1993, p.28. See a related ear cup from the Western Han dynasty in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, acc. no. 1991.7; and another in the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art, no.
