[PRIVATE COLLECTION, PARIS] CHINESE FINELY CARVED BAMBOO 'RED CLIFF' BRUSH POT XU YUJI MARK, QING DYNASTY 清 徐裕基款 竹雕《赤壁夜遊》筆筒銘款：赤壁夜遊。乙丑午月。裕基。徐（刻章）of cylindrical form mounted with hardwood on mouth and foot, finely carved with a continuous scene of scholars on raff coming out from a cliff, the shore with pine trees, rugged mountains, bridge, and cloud further occupied by scholars, carved to one side above foot with title ‘Chibi Yeyou’ (Night Boating Along Red Cliff), dated to Yi Chou year (either 1745 or 1805 AD), signed ‘Yu Ji’ 16.5cm high Private collection, Paris 巴黎私人收藏 Xu Yuji, courtesy name Zhaozhou, was a native of Jiading in Shanghai and one of the famous Jiading bamboo carving masters. Active during the Qianlong and Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, he was skilled in semi-cursive and regular script calligraphy, and also master at bamboo carving. The brush pots and paperweights he made featured calligraphy in the style of Zhao Mengfu. The current brush pot displays spectacular craftsmanship with intricately rendered details and complex composition. Xu Yuji's bamboo carvings were also featured in the special exhibition 'Art of Chinese Bamboo Carving,' held on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Shanghai Museum. The exhibition ran from 1st May to 1st July, 2012.Jiading bamboo carving began in the Zhengde and Jiajing periods of the Ming Dynasty, founded by Zhu He, who integrated calligraphy and painting into bamboo carving and pioneered the deep-carving technique. It flourished during the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Qianlong period, producing many masters and becoming a tribute item. 徐裕基，字肇周，上海嘉定人，活躍於清乾隆、嘉慶年間，為著名嘉定竹刻名家之一。善行楷，亦善刻竹。所製筆筒、鎮紙，書蹟類趙孟頫。此筆筒工藝非凡，細節刻劃精緻，構圖複雜縝密。徐裕基的竹雕作品亦曾於上海博物館建館60週年特展之「竹鏤文心──竹刻藝術特展」, 展期為2012年5月1日至7月1日。嘉定竹刻始於明代正德、嘉靖年間，由朱鶴創立，將書畫藝術融入竹刻，開創深刻技法。清代康雍乾時期進入全盛，名家輩出，成為貢品。 This lot has been imported from outside of the UK and placed under Temporary Admission.
