PAUL DUPRÉ LAFON (1900-1971) FOR HERMÈS BOX, c.1950 stamped HERMÈS.PARIS (to the gilt metal insert on lid) and stamped HERMÈS (to the leather), incised signatures by members of the House of Orléans (primary claimants to the defunct French throne) and dated 18-9-1954 (to the gilt metal inside of lid), leather, wood and gilt metal 3.4cm high, 22.5cm wide, 11.8cm deep (1 3/8in high, 8 7/8in wide, 4 5/8in deep) Sir Robert and Lady McEwen of Marchmont and Bardrochat, and by descent to the present owner;Private Collection, U.K. The box was given to Sir Robert and Lady McEwen of Marchmont and Bardrochat for their wedding in 1954, by members of the House of Orléans, the defunct French Royal Family.The incised signatures include Prince Michel, Count of Évreux, Prince Thibaut, Count of La Marche, Henri, Count of Paris and Isabelle, Countess of Paris.
